The Investigations Division consists of lieutenants, detectives, process servers and others who provide a full range of professional law enforcement and investigative support services; present accurate and timely information to support prosecutorial decisions that ensure continuing public trust in the judicial process; supply and maintain professional quality case management and litigation support services; and in creative collaboration with community members and allied law enforcement agencies, support effective responses to problems that impair the safety or the quality of life of Maricopa County communities and their members.
The Investigations Division has four bureaus:
Criminal Trials Investigations Bureau
Provides investigative support and conducts investigations for Trial Groups A, B, D and E; Charging/Grand Jury; Appeals; Extradition; Preliminary Hearings; Probation Violation; the Trial bureaus at the Southeast Facility; and Juvenile East and West divisions. Also responsible for out-of-state witness process serving.
Investigative Services Bureau
Serves criminal process, locates witnesses, performs background and records checks. Prepares courtroom exhibits. Performs technical investigations and courtroom exhibit analysis. Also responsible for AZ POST records.
Major Crimes Investigations Bureau
Provides investigative support and conducts investigations for Homicide, Sex Crimes, Family Violence, Sexual Predator, Vehicular Crimes, Gang/ROP, and the Major Crimes bureaus at the Southeast Facility. Also responsible for out-of-state witness process serving.
Special Investigations Bureau
Provides investigative support and conducts investigations for Special Crimes, Asset Forfeiture, and Fraud and Identity Theft Enforcement bureaus. Also responsible for electronic surveillance and Intelligence Unit operations.
